Next Song - All Tongue Tied

I sat down with the next song and struggled a bit.  It will be a DarkStar song, and I like the choice of instruments, even the chord progressions (though that might have to change).  However, the melody I laid down made it extremely tough.  Normally I have some simplified melody that runs through the song.  I will build on it for any solos, but I also try to sing towards it (not always the easiest, but just to try and keep the idea).  The melody I chose made the lyrics unsingable.

Additionally, the versus are more wordy than usual (keep in mind this is a DarkStar song).  So, it is harder to get them all in within the progression I chose (let’s not kid ourselves this probably hurts the melody as well.  I started to prune the lyrics but thought that would probably make DarkStar unhappy (they are his lyrics after all).

So, to fix the melody issue, I plan on simplifying it even more.  This will allow more flexibility when singing.  I can use what I have as more of the solo portion.  We can start with this and build.  However, this is also fixed by the second adjustment.

To work out the versus more easily, I am going to extend the chord pattern.  Currently it is a grouping of three, four measure patterns followed by a five-measure pattern.  I am thinking of alternating the four and five measure patterns which will extend ever so slightly the length and should make this work.

I can go back to the current Three four measures and one five measure patterns for the solo, or I could just keep the pattern used for the measures now.  I may change the chords (I often do), but I tend to like to keep the patterns (so the listener can get into a groove.

Either way, that is my update.  Back at working on it. 

Oh, and I have been considering working on a comic strip (would be simple art like the videos).  It could tell the story as well (not as fleshed out as in the write up, but a comic).  Let me know what you think.
