OP-XY? – Will we change the lineup again?

In a previous post we defined Orbital Rhapsody Music. I will not go through that here (you can go back 3 posts). However, after doing that (and agreeing that DarkStar could use the sequencer in limited instances as discussed). I will note here that we do use the drum sequencer normally, but that fits the agreement and was used as a precedent).
So DarkStar ended up taking this a step further, wondering (aloud) if we should shake up the band’s lineup again. The OP-XY has a much stronger sequencer and might be beneficial. This started a huge debate. The OP-XY is definitely a strong machine with lots of capabilities (though the OP-1 is no slouch). In the end it was a matter of focus.
The OP-XY offers a lot more power in the sequencer side, which would be beneficial to DarkStar on the drums and other rhythm sections. However, this is not really what we wanted. Way back when we started the band, there were other groove boxes we investigated. Though there are some really good units out there, it was not what we were about. We were not about quantized, technically accurate (etc – some might say good) music. We were about just hitting the note that felt right at the time it felt right.
We did make the upgrade from the OP-1 to the OP-1 Field for different reasons. Not because workflow so much. It was more about having 6 projects at a time (so each member could work on their own set of tapes, and then I pull it together). Having stereo was a boon (as was the new sequencer and effect). So it was not that anything was wrong with the OP-1, the OP-1 Field just fit us better size wise.
Moving to the OP-XY would change things like work flow etc. That is not what we want. We know our music is not perfect (many might say not even good), but that is what we are. It is more about a live type performance caught on tape, then mixed and provided to the listeners. So, no, we will not be changing the band’s line up.
