Reorganization is a Good Thing

Let me start out by saying that the change in direction on the new album (see last post moving to Lullabies) was a good thing.  Already have a song finished and the next one in progress.  Should be able to work through an album in a much more reasonable time than I was with the old topic.

I gave a listen to all my songs (just listened to them in order).  The musical growth is huge.  In fact it is so huge the first album (We’re Making Music Now) feels unlistenable to me.  The second (Interstellar Sounds) has its issues, but also its charms and I do not want to cut this one as it really hits the heart of the band forming.

Having said that the album lengths are also all over the place.  “We’re Making Music Now” is a normal sized album.  “Interstellar Sounds” and “Invasion Earth” are not considered albums (long singles?).  “Songs From the Silicon Heart” is a still a short album.  Intergalactic Road Trip and Planet AI get into more acceptable lengths for albums. 

Additionally, I was never sure about the split between “Invasion Earth” and “Songs From the Silicon Heart”.  Felt like a cliff hanger between albums (instead of finishing up that chapter).  It seems too haphazard to me (I did make a set of CDs, but ended up combining albums etc). 

So, the solution seems to be re-wrapping some of this.  I am toying with the idea of just removing “We’re Making Music Now” as an album.  Renaming “Interstellar Sounds” to something like “Stellar Awakening”.  After the story, it would include a few songs off of the old “We’re Making Music Now” (most likely the more popular ones maybe).  I would also move a song or two off the beginning of “Invasion Earth” onto this album.

The last few songs on “Invasion Earth” would move onto “Songs From the Silicon Heart” so we get setup and resolution all on one album (not sure what I would call the combined album yet).  Everything later would stay as it is.  Let me know if you have any feedback on this.
