We finished the review of all the music we put out to date. It was a worthy effort as the spacecraft have not listened much to the actual releases. There is definite growth seen, and a few things to watch out for in the future. I will highlight them below.
We’re Making Music Now – DarkStar would like us to pull that from the catalog and get it off streaming. Flash and SuperStar do not feel as strongly, but all are a little horrified when listening to it again. There are just errors in the music that did not need to be there. Also, it was all over the place. Flash and SuperStar are ok leaving it, as it is outside the story, and shows some growth for the group.
Interstellar Sounds and Invasion Earth – There is some to like and some not as much. Definitely a step up from We’re Making Music Now, but it feels like these two albums could be combined. In fact, if we are redoing our catalog at any point, would probably want to combine them and remove the Live Vol 1 songs. Those songs in general did not go over well and seemed more an extension of We’re Making Music Now than part of the story.
Songs From the Silicon Heart – Probably their favorite album. Made them want to do a Songs From the Silicon Heart 2 (just more of the songs they sang to save the earth). Quality of the music continues to improve, as well as the song quality.
Intergalactic Road Trip – This album was also enjoyed as well. In fact it is a close second to Songs From the Silicon Heart. This was definitely our biggest album to date (not by number of songs, but by length and just challenge). The group obviously had a lot of fun in making this one as well. The only reason it fell just behind Songs From the Silicon Heart was the depth of material (musically it was the favorite, but the songs in Songs From the Silicon Heart had more meaning). There was some experimental stuff on this (especially Galactic Accelerator but others as well) which we will comment about at the end.
In general, they found this an interesting review. It is far different than their shows. They do start their shows with their story (Interstellar Sounds and Invasion Earth) and some Songs From the Silicon Heart, but after that, they go a bit different direction. Obviously, there are no true words in songs in space (communications is more telepathic and not as specific as a language). A lot of their music has no words (but descriptive of their time in space). A big piece of their live shows are these descriptive non-lyrical songs.
They also tend to think we experiment too much on songs that are being released. We should experiment on songs that do not get released. They understand the first album (though are not happy with it), but it did come into play during the last album a bit also. There will also be no more Live Vol 1 (or any other number). They are finding their style and these are no longer helpful. Finally, though we will continue with Planet AI (it is an important part of the story to tell), after that we will break and do a more space descriptive album (as they perform live).
