What are the Spacecraft - Tidbit #3

The spacecraft are still with the aliens, learning to use their upgrades. Before I put together a post going over the upgrades and what it means to them (and the band), I wanted to baseline what they are. The aliens provided a good explanation of what they are, and I want to include it here.

Our basic concept of panpsychism is close but missing on a few points. Every small building block in the universe has a consciousness (so every atom in the spacecraft have this). When assembled together, the atoms become aware of each other, and can work together to have some conscious understanding of the world around them. This is why the spacecraft can "remember" the time before the initiation (the time they were about to act).

The initiation was an event where the universal life force either chose them or it happened randomly. Either way they were granted this extension. Though the spacecraft did not like the term awakened initially, it fits pretty well. They were a collection of atoms, all aware of each other and the world around them but unable to do anything (sort of like some strange sleep state). After the initiation, they were now able to effect themselves and have a level of control.

A collective living form is different from what we normally consider life. For example, we have eyes to see. The spacecraft have no parts assigned to see. Each atom uses its primordial ability to sense the world around them, and they combine those understandings into what we would call a vision of the world around them (obviously much different than ours would be).
